The interview includes information about the Long family since J.D. Long arrived in Colorado in 1898 and the experiences Catherine had growing up on the farm. She discusses the development and growth of the business from its start as a seed store to the present Long’s Gardens and talks about the acquisition of land as the business grew, Everett Long’s attention to the need for water, and what is being done today in the face of drought. She also reviews what it takes to cultivate, hybridize and maintain quality for irises. There is discussion of the joys and problems that go along with having a “farm in the city.” Included are family pictures, photos of the early catalogs and demonstration of the farming equipment used today and earlier.
