Description:

Rebecca Bennet Calvert describes the life of her mother, Mabel Downer Bennet Durning, who had a passion for the history of Allenspark and created an extensive historical collection about Allenspark that comprises 14 boxes of materials, archived at the Carnegie Branch Library for Local History. Rebecca talks about the hardships her mother experienced; her sense of humor, her energy, her organizational abilities, and her perseverance that carried her past those hardships. She details her mother’s career in education as a physical education teacher, early elementary teacher and principal. She describes living with her mother in a cabin in Allenspark in the 1950s. And she tells about her mother’s love of the Longmont and Allenspark communities and her efforts to preserve the area’s history.
