Description:

Don Burd is the head of the Buildings and Historic Preservation Department for Boulder County Parks and Open Space. He has worked for that department since 1980, and he talks about the department’s growth (from 10 to more than 120 employees). He describes many preservation and restoration projects that his crews have undertaken, some of his favorite projects and restoration jobs, and some of the challenges involved in doing historic preservation work. He also talks about working with the Youth Corps program and with other volunteers. He tells about his years of living up at Walker Ranch as a caretaker, his great affection for the property, and his interest in the family that settled it.
